Why The Martial Arts
The martial arts
have long been associated with benefits such as self-discipline, self-confidence,
strength, endurance, and flexibility (click
here to view Full Split Club members in our eGallery). The fact of the matter is,
soccer, football, basketball, and most other organized sports offer
these very benefits… so why martial arts?
Perhaps this
question is best answered by explaining what the martial arts is
not.
-
The martial
arts is NOT a team sport
-
Your child
will never be overshadowed by the “star player”
-
Your child
will never be “benched”
-
The martial
arts is NOT a seasonal sport
-
Because the
season never stops, neither do the benefits
-
The martial
arts is NOT rooted in sport
-
Though
taught like a sport, the martial arts is in fact a
lifestyle. And because health and wellness, too is a
lifestyle, the martial arts is a natural fit for the
ultimate goals of the Child Nutrition and WIC Recreation Act
of 2004 – a healthy America.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Tae Kwon Do?
Tae Kwon Do
is one of the most systematic and scientific Korean traditional
martial arts, that teaches more than physical fighting skills. It
is a discipline that shows ways of enhancing our spirit and life
through training our body and mind. Today, it has become a global
sport that has gained an international reputation, and stands among
the official games in the Olympics.
What is Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?
Brazilian
Jiu-Jitsu is an approach to self-defense unlike that of many
traditional martial arts. Where most martial arts rely on striking,
Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu relies on leverage, balance, and positional
dominance to subdue larger attackers. Its emphasis on proper
technique over size and strength makes it an excellent choice for
addressing a child's needs.
Is there a difference between Tae Kwon Do and Karate?
With regard
to your child’s needs, no. Any martial art can be beneficial for
your child. When searching for a program for your child, what is
most important is finding the right instructor. Take a FREE
introductory lesson with one of our instructors to see for yourself
why we’re the right academy for your child.
Is martial arts training safe?
The training
areas in our facility are covered with two inches of high density
foam similar to those found in high school and college wrestling
surfaces. Covered with marine-grade vinyl, our mats are water
proof, enabling us to sweep and mop with an antibacterial solution
every day.
